World Peace through Consumerism……..contribution of Marketing ;-)

If people were ensconced in images/philosophy of western individualism and empiricism and leading lives influenced by consumerism; perhaps following the pleasure principle, little inclination would be left for violence…………so high yield economic activities which is less capital and more labour intensive seems to be the way out of violence and towards peace……….but the stakeholders in world peace would be required to create that kind of demand and sustain it………….

Consumerism will happen with creation of more wealth at individual level. Given the heterogeneous and unequal distribution of wealth creating resources, what will happen at global level will be largely – rebalancing of wealth among countries.

In my opinion, basic ingredients for violence are – jealous nature of human beings and their ever increasing aspirations. Marketeers use these two characterstics as tools to suceed in this competitive environment. Hence, we end up following Michael Porter’s generic competitive strategy of “Differentiation”, which is enough to keep people seperated.
